How to make a service business bookable by AI agents
An agent needs readable availability, a way to write a real booking, and a confirmation it can show the client. This page states where each booking system stands.
Where a booking travels, and where it stops today
An assistant asks for a real appointment. WhatsDo reads the verified services and open hours out of the Square account your team already works in, and writes the booking back into that same account. The reading is live today. The writing runs in closed beta.
The short answer
Three things have to be true at once, and the list below is all three. A website, a phone number and a contact form satisfy none of them.
- 01Readable availability: real services, real durations, real prices, real open slots, correct timezone. This part is live on Square Appointments.
- 02A write path: an interface that creates the appointment in the system your staff actually uses. Ours is in closed beta against a controlled merchant.
- 03A verifiable result: a booking identifier that matches your provider record, confirmed by a published controlled run.
What does not make you bookable
Most of the advice circulating on this topic solves visibility and stops there. Visibility without a write path produces a recommendation that ends in a dead link.
- 01A beautiful website with a Book now button that opens a human-only form.
- 02A phone answering bot. It handles inbound calls and cannot accept a booking initiated by an agent on another surface.
- 03A Google Business Profile alone. It helps discovery and does not give an agent a write path.
- 04Listing your prices in a PDF or an image. Machines cannot use them reliably.
Start from the system you already run
Your booking backend decides what is possible today. This is the honest map as of this release.
- 01On Square Appointments: you can connect now. Availability goes live to agents and the booking write runs in closed beta. Follow the steps below.
- 02On the one system in verification: it is in progress. Register interest and we will contact you when it passes.
- 03On every other booking system: no agent path exists through us yet. Register interest and ask your platform for agent booking support.
- 04On a paper diary or a spreadsheet: move to a supported system first. Everything downstream depends on it.

Tell us what runs your calendar and you get one of three answers: agents can read your availability today, your system is in verification, or there is no path yet and we write to you the day that changes.
The steps on Square Appointments
This is the path that exists today, in the order it happens.
- 01Clean your Square data: service names, durations, prices, currency, timezone and staff availability.
- 02Register your business with WhatsDo and confirm the exact Square account.
- 03Authorize Square with the permissions needed to read services and create appointments.
- 04Review what was imported and correct anything that does not match reality.
- 05Go live on availability. Agent bookings arrive in your normal Square calendar as the write leaves closed beta.
- 06Keep your hours and prices current. Stale data is the most common reason an agent skips a business.

What to expect once you are connected
Agent demand in the US is early. The reason to connect now is that the setup cost is small and the position compounds while the category is still forming.
- 01The booking write stays on the closed-beta write until the controlled run is published.
- 02Cancellation and reschedule through the agent path are not available yet.
- 03Your existing clients are unaffected and keep booking the way they always have.
- 04Nobody can promise you a number of agent bookings. Anyone who does is guessing.

No. You expose the services you choose, your provider account stays the source of truth, and you can revoke access at any time.
Will AI send me clients instead of my regulars?+
Agent bookings are additional demand arriving through a new surface. Your regular clients keep using the channels they already use.
Is this the same as SEO for AI?+
Visibility work gets you mentioned. A write path gets you booked. You need both, and most businesses have neither today.
How long until this matters in my market?+
Nobody can date it honestly. Connect when you want to test the path; you can disconnect from Square later.
